Why submit to a data repository?

There's a good chance that if you're reading this guide, you've already decided to submit to a data repository. But why is it important to do so? Below are some reasons why data repositories are good for your, your data, and the research ecosystem.

Data repositories:

  • Can help you fulfill funding and publication requirements (from the NIH, your institution, journals, etc)
  • Provide secure, external storage
  • Make data findable and citable, so you get credit for your work, and other researchers get material to use in future work
