MSK Archives: Research

This guide provides an overview of the Archives at MSK, including a description of our existing holdings, collecting areas, and how to use and access materials

In-Person Use of Collections Suspended

Due to the closure of the physical MSK Library location at the Rockefeller Research Laboratories, in-person use of Archival content is suspended until further notice. An update will be posted to this page when and if in-person use of Archival material resumes. In the interim, please contact the Archivist to request digital copies of Archival content.

The Archives at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center were founded almost 100 years after the institution it documents. As a result, not all the documentation about MSK’s history is housed in our Archives. If you are interested in material about MSK, but that information is not housed with us, you may be able to find it at one of our sister repositories listed below.

Five Dos and Don'ts of Archival Research

This helpful guide from Zachary Hottel, the Archivist at Shenandoah County Library System, details some helpful tips on doing archival research.

Requesting Medical Information

Unfortunately, the MSKCC Archives does not include medical records as part of its collecting plan, though there are occasional portions of medical records in our holdings by happenstance.
If you are interested in receiving/sending an x-ray or other diagnostic scan, please reach out to the MSK Imaging Center at 646-888-5300
For additional medical records related questions, please refer to this article which provides detailed instructions on how to request your or a direct family member’s records.
Also please note that records older than 30 years may require more extensive research, and records older than 75 years may be spotty, so expect possibly longer wait times if your request falls into either category.
