Patient Education Resource Guide

MSK librarians guiding patients, family members, and caregivers to cancer information

Navigating the MSK Website

Most information you need you will find on the MSK website, mskcc.org. All of the links on this page are from mskcc.org and were chosen by MSK librarians as helpful places to start or bookmark for future reference.

If you have questions or are not able to find something on mskcc.org, please contact an MSK librarian via the library's Ask Us help page.

Where to Start

The guide Becoming a Patient provides helpful information for anyone interested in starting care at MSK, including how to request an appointment, get help with insurance or financial concerns, and prepare for your first visit. Look further within the guide for pages such as frequently asked questions.

Another patient guide to explore is Welcome to MSK, which shows you all patient benefits at MSK.

What to Bookmark

We are highlighting these mskcc.org pages as we have learned as librarians that they are helpful to patients.

  • About the MyMSK Patient Portal & App
    • This page explains MyMSK, a patient portal that allows you or your caregivers to securely access information online about your care at MSK, including medical records, lab results, appointments, and hospital bills. If you have questions about MyMSK, visit their Contact Us page.
  • Patient & Community Education
    • This page lets you search the Patient & Community Education virtual library, a collection of written resources, videos, and online programs. Start typing in the search bar at the center of the page and it will help suggest topics it thinks you are looking for.
  • Patient and Family Advisory Council for Quality (PFACQ)
    • In order to make care at MSK more patient-centered, this group partners MSK employees with current and former patients, family members, and caregivers. Explore this page for more information about PFACQ, the activities they are involved in, and becoming a patient or family advisor.
  • About Herbs
    • About Herbs is a database of herbs, botanicals, and supplements with their purported benefits, side effects, and drug interactions. It is brought to you by the Integrative Medicine Service and is available online and as the About Herbs App, an iOS and Android-compatible mobile application.
  • Cancer Straight Talk Podcast
    • Hosted by Dr. Diane Reidy-Lagunes, this podcast brings together patients and experts to discuss various topics in the field of cancer. Episodes can be found at the page linked above or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Support for Caregivers

If you are on this page as the caregiver of someone with cancer, you may find yourself juggling responsibilities and different emotions. The page Cancer Caregiver Support & Help lists educational resources and various support services, both within and outside of MSK.

The team behind Patient & Community Education has written many resources for caregivers. Two places to start are Caregiver Support Services and A Guide for Caregivers, and both are available in a variety of languages.
